Adventure Team Outing, July 24

Tuesday, July 24th, The Adventure Team will depart the Parish Hall at 1045am for lunch at the Dallas Museum of Art’s Atrium Cafe followed by a visit to “Flower of the Prairie, George Groz in Dallas.” In 1952 the German Artist George Groz was invited to Dallas by Leon Harris, the young VP and President of A. Harris and Co. Department Store. Mr. Harris commissioned a series of Paintings and drawings illustrating Dallas in 1952 and the result is this exhibition. Adventure Team Excursion: “Remembering Tom Landry…”

Tuesday, January 25th, (weather permitting) the Adventure Team will depart the parish hall at 10:45 am for lunch at South Dallas Cafe near Fair Park then to visit “Remembering Tom Landry – The Personal Collection” at the Hall of State, Fair Park, presented by the Dallas Historical Society.

Adventure Team Visits The Trains At Northpark

Wednesday, December 8th, the Adventure Team visited the “Trains at Northpark” benefitting the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas. This exhibit is the most elaborate toy train exhibit in Texas celebrating its 11th year at Northpark. 40 vintage locomotives chug along 2500 feet of track on a journey across America.

Adventure Team Visits Meadows Museum

On the cold morning of 11/30/10, St. Mark’s Adventure Team traveled to SMU’s Meadows Museum to visit 2 current exhibitions – “Breaking New Ground,” a special exhibition previewing the George W. Bush Presidential Center to be opened in 2013. Also, El Greco’s masterpiece “Pentecost” from the Prado Museum, Madrid, Spain. Painted in 1600, the painting describes events in the New Testament Book of Acts, Chapter 2, verses 1-4.

Adventure Team To Visit Meadows Museum

The Adventure Team will leave the Parish Hall at 10:45 am Tuesday, November 30th for lunch at La Madeline and to visit The Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University.

Two exhibits are currently featured — El Greco’s painting of “The Pentecost” on loan from the Prado Museum, Madrid, Spain and “Breaking New Ground, Key Bush Administration Artifacts and Papers from the George W. Bush Presidential Center.”

St. Mark’s Adventure Team Visits The Firey Pool

Tuesday, November 2nd, St. Markians blasted off for lunch at Ft. Worth’s Kimbell Art Museum and to view “Firey Pool: The Maya and the Mythic Sea,” a new interpretation of Maya Culture based on the sea as a defining feature of the Maya spiritual realm and inspiration for much of that Culture’s finest art.

Sadly, photos of the group did not turn out, but an interesting and fun time was had by all!

Adventure Team Visits Texas Scottish Rite Hospital

Tuesday, October 5th, the Saint Mark’s Adventure Team toured the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas.

Texas Scottish Rite Hospital is an absolutely amazing place that treats Texas children from birth to 18 years of age who have pediatric orthopedic conditions such as scoliosis, clubfoot, hand disorders, hip disorders, limb length differences, as well as certain related neurological disorders and learning disorders (dyslexia.)

Over 190,000 children have been treated totally free of charge since its inception in 1921 with more than 40,000 clinic visits each year.

Adventure Team Visits the Museum of Biblical Arts

Tuesday, August 24th, Saint Mark’s Adventure Team gathered for lunch at the Blue Mesa Grill before visiting the Museum of Biblical Arts in Dallas.

From the Museum’s Website: “We serve all backgrounds and denominations—particularly those interested in art history, because an understanding of Biblical themes is critical to both an understanding of the humanities and Western Culture. The Museum is a cultural crossroads utilizing art for tolerance and understanding—reflected in our various archeological exhibits and decorative art from Israel and the Holy Land.
